Emergency Medicine

Students will be assigned a shift schedule for the four week clerkship. Over the four weeks, students will work a total of 14 shifts; 13 in the Emergency Department and one as a ride along with an ambulance service. Students will have the opportunity to perform the initial evaluation of undifferentiated patients presenting for evaluation and will then present the patient to an attending or senior resident, followed by discussion of a management plan. They will actively participate in following through on the components of the management plan. Students will see from one to four patients at a time; this will vary depending on the attending. Students will have opportunities to develop their procedural skills (i.e., ABG's, NG tube and IV's). Students will attend all conferences/didactics during the clerkship and will be assigned selected readings.
