This elective will provide students with the unique opportunity of working in the Sparrow Specialty Hospital often referred to as the Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) at Sparrow Hospital.  LTACH’s provide specialized inpatient care for patients with complex medical problems/situations. The LTACH is a 30 bed hospital within a hospital. The average length of stay is around 25 days.  Diagnosis range from severe MVA, endocarditis, acute respiratory failure, stroke victims that do not meet IPR criteria, and complex wounds requiring wound vacs/debridement/etc.  Students will often be exposed to vent weaning/care.
